The most exciting way to find a Spring local to you is to visit Streetmap, enter your postcode/town. Set your zoom level to: 1:25000 - at this level of zoom any natural springs will be shown as: Spr- or Sprs for more than one spring.
SET ZOOM CONTROL
Because Springs are only shown at this level of zoom you will need to drag the map to search the entire area. Not all springs you find will be suitable, some maybe dry or barely flowing at all, while others maybe freely flowing directly from the ground.
Upon finding a spring there is a few things to look out for.
How much flow does the spring have?
We always like to see a minimum of around 10 litres a minute.
Quality of the Spring Water?
By purchasing a TDS meter you will be able to measure the total dissolved solids present. This will give an idication of the hardness. A reading of 150 is fine for everyday drinking, but the lower the better.
The TDS meter will also allow you to measure the water tempreture. To be on the safe side the water should be about 4 degrees centergrade all year round.
At this temperature bacteria can not live . We only say this to be on the safe side, as spring water can be perfectly safe to drink at higher temps, as long as your collecting from the source itself.
